craigferrin

Dr. Ferrin grew up in Tooele under the tutelage of his father, C. Roy Ferrin, who was the Bandmaster of the Tooele High School Band for over thirty years. Craig holds degrees in music education from the University of Utah and Northwestern University. He has studied trumpet with Alan Weight, Ed Cord and Vincent Cicowicz and conducting with Gregg Hanson, John Paynter and Barry Kopetz. As an educator, his mentors were Mark Ely, Ed Asmus and Bennett Reimer.

As a trumpet performer, he was honored as a member of the McDonald’s All-American High School Band and the Los Angeles Olympics All-American College Band. Locally, he has performed with the Mormon Youth Symphony, Salt Lake Symphony, Taylorsville Symphony Orchestra, the Murray Concert Band and in several musical stage productions.

Craig has conducted the Taylorsville Symphony Orchestra and taught at Roy High School and Hunter High School. He is currently on the music faculty of Salt Lake Community College. Craig is fortunate to be married to the former Tammy Jolley, and they have six fantastic children. As Craig has always wanted to follow in the footsteps of his father, he looks forward to this tremendous opportunity to lead the Murray Concert Band and associate with so many wonderful musicians and friends.
